Mr. William Alvin Wilson, "Al" as he was affectionately called, was born on October 3, 1963 in Mayesville, SC to the late William Jefferson Wilson and Earnestine Johnson Wilson. He departed this earthly life after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Wellstone Kennestone Memorial Hospital in Marietta, GA.
"Al" received his early Christian experience with his family at St. Mark United Methodist Church. He also faithfully attended Elizabeth Baptist Church while residing in Atlanta, GA.
William received his education in the public schools of Sumter County, and graduated from Mayewood High School in 1981.
MS1 (SW) William Alvin Wilson was employed by the U.S. Navy, VP6- Blue Sharks Squadron in Hawaii from 1981-1985; later reassigned to Mayport Naval Station, Jacksonville, FL and NAS Jacksonville, FL until his retirement in 2001 after 20 years of honorable service.
He leaves to cherish his life and memory his wife of 34 years, Dr. Rezenia Grant Wilson; a daughter, Ashley Monique Wilson; a son, William Grant Wilson all of the home, Mableton, GA; three grandchildren: Julian Kahlil, Aubrey KatieRose, and Carter Nicole; a brother, Terence (Evelyn) Wilson of Mayesville, SC; three sisters: Benita (Samuel) Spann of Sumter, SC, Sharolyn (Tyrone) Brown of Columbia, SC, Mary Louise (Stephen) Harrison of Florence, SC; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Grant of Atlanta, GA; one uncle, McKinley L. Wilson of Sumter, SC; four aunts: Nancy (Odell) Williams, Neola (Walter) Davis both of Mayesville, SC, Barbara Wilson Jackson, and Libby Johnson both of Sumter, SC; two brothers-in-law, Rocky Grant, Jr. and Anthony Grant both of Atlanta, GA; three sisters-in-law: Patricia (Robert), Freda (Kenneth), and Sharon (Adrian) all of Atlanta, GA; life-long veteran friends: Maurice Cole, George Scruggs, and Anthony Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Public Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Wilson will be placed in the church on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 1pm for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 South Salem Avenue Sumter, SC 29150, with Rev. Franklin Garrett, Presiding, and Rev. Donnie McBride, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in St. Peter AME Church Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at 1130 Spann Street Sumter, SC 29153
Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
