Wendy Hammett Durant was born on March 27, 1975 in Pinewood, SC to Joseph Hammett and the late Carrie Mae Hammett. She departed this life on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey.
Wendy was reared with the support of a loving family. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She was employed with Genuine Flava Restaurant.
She was loved by many, devoted wife, mother, sister, auntie, sister-in-law, and friend. Wendy always greeted you with a beautiful smile and would make you laugh. Wendy attended many local churches in the community.
Wendy leaves to cherish her precious memories; loving husband, Cleveland Durant Jr.; children, Clevetria (Gregory) Durant, Courtney (Stedmond) Hammett, Jeremy (Jodi) Durant, Jimmy Durant, Joseph Buck, and Jalen Durant; her step children, Donte (Diamond) Wheeler, Justice Durant, Cleveland (Melinda) Maple, and Demond Pringle; her father, Joseph Hammett; four sisters, Mechell (Eric) McClam, Linda Hammett Johnson, Cara (Adrain) Spann, Jennifer Simon (Glenn); two daughters that she helped raised as her own, Ericka L. McClam and Destiny S. Johnson all of Sumter, SC; her father-in-law, Cleveland Durant Sr. of Sumter, SC; grandchildren, Mauri, Ganiyah, Zionne, Ga' Laiyah, Gregory Jr, Brysyn, Cleveah, Jazlynn, Jakori, Jyheem, Jhymir, and a host of step grandchildren; aunts, Ellanora Shaw, Debra Johnson, Dot (Mallie) Richardson, and Rosetta Felder; uncles, Norris (Ida) Hammett, George (Carolyn) Stukes Jr.; grandaunt, Luphillis (Sam) McFadden; granduncle, Johnny Lee (Mary) Bradley; sisters-in-law, Doris (Willie) Shaw, Lula Mae Sigler, Mary Shropshire, Grander Durant, Rutdenia (Larry) Bouknight, Beverly (Ike) Peterson, Janice (Herbert) Wells and Doris English, brothers-in-law, Gregory Durant, Joseph Durant, and Lazaurs (Tacarra) Durant; a dear cousin she took as a brother, Gary Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, cousins and friends, Tawn Chris, Carolyn, Jennifer, Kathy, Nobie and Tarlisa and Patsy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, maternal grandparents, George and Ellanora Stukes, paternal grandparents, Norris and Louise Hammett; uncles, Bobby, Jimmy, Issac Stukes; grandaunts, Shirley Fleming, and Mary Spann, mother-in-law, Annie Lee Bradley Durant, brother-in-law, Albert Bradley and nephew, Rafael Durant.
Mrs. Durant will be placed in the church on Friday at 1pm.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 2pm at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 S. Salem Ave, Sumter with Rev. Roger Mullins, Officiating
Interment will follow in Calvary-Zion Hill Cemetery, Pinewood, SC
Family will be receiving friends at the home 169 Gatewood Street, Sumter
