Mr. Wayne Maurice Carter, son of the late Mr. James Carter and Mrs. Mariah Bradley Carter, was born in Maysville, SC on September 09, 1965. His early years were spent in Jersey City. New Jersey until his parents relocated to Sumter, South Carolina. Wayne departed this life on July 17, 2017, in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Wayne was a graduate of Sumter High School in Sumter, SC, and South Carolina State University, both undergraduate and graduate. Employed by the Richmond County School District in Augusta Georgia, he served as a guidance counselor for more than twenty years. Moreover, his love of sports (namely football) led him to coach for several years.
Wayne is survived by his sibling, Mr. James V. (Maggie) Carter and Mr. Ricky (Adrian) Carter both of Orangeburg, South Carolina; Mr. Jonathan R. Carter of Sumter, South Carolina. He also leaves his two maternal aunts Mrs. Rosa B. Oden of Richmond, Virginia and Vivian B. Houey of Columbia, South Carolina. and seven paternal aunts, Mrs. Louise (Willie) Kelly, Mrs. Fannie Williams of Jersey City, New Jersey, Mrs. Lily May (Louie) McDuffy of Willingboro, New Jersey, Mrs. Maggie (Isaiah) White, Mrs. Earnestine (William) Singleton, all of Sumter, South Carolina; Mrs. Emma Ragin of Arlington, Virginia, and Mrs. Margie Backstorm of Jersey City, New Jersey and 2 paternal uncles Tommie Turner and Otis Butler, two nieces Ashley V. Carter and Mariah Carter; one nephew Ryan Carter and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 2pm at Salem Chapel and Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150, Pastor Ted Aiken, Officiating and Pastor Clinton Caesar, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
