Obituary

Virginia Epps Jordan, wife of the late Richard Jordan, departed this earthly life on March 8, 2018. Born in Sumter County to the late John and Elise Epps.

Affectionately known to many as "Ning," Mrs. Jordan was educated in the Sumter County School System. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she worked at Milford Manor Nursing Home for 35 years. While living in Baltimore, she joined New St. John Baptist Church.  She joined Asbury United Methodist Church at an early age and remained a member until her death. She had a significant effect on everyone she met; always inviting you in her home.

Mrs. Jordan leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Virginia Gamble and Ida Golden; two sons, Richard (Josephine) Lee and Elister (Sandra) Lee all of Sumter, SC; two stepdaughters, Brenda (Charles) Smith and Alma Jackson both of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren: Annette Maith, Taruis Epps, Tyrek Epps of the home, Charles Smith, Jr., Tracey Jackson, Theodore Jackson, and Michael Jackson all of Baltimore, MD; four great-grandchildren: Joseph Wells, Richard McDowell, Tamra Gamble, Troy Gamble all of Baltimore, MD, and Robert Gamble, Jr. of the home; three sisters: Pearline Gamble and Mary Barno of Lynchburg, SC, and Lizzie Harrison of Turbeville, SC; two brothers, Nathaniel Epps and McSwin (Eliza) Epps both of Lynchburg, SC; one godchild, Tonya Hackett of Baltimore, MD; a very dear friend for 50 years, Mrs. Bernice Harwin and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Robert Gamble, Sr.; one stepson, Richard Jordan III; two sisters, Reather Bell Powell and Veinice Rufus; four brothers: Jerome Epps, Codell Epps, Johnnie Jenkins and William McCray; and one son-in-law, Robert Gamble.

Public viewing will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Jordan will be placed in the church on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11am at Asbury United Methodist Church, 355 Pudding Swamp Rd, Lynchburg, SC, with Pastor Shirley McKnight Officiating.

Interment will follow in Goodman Cemetery.
