IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vernal
Cousar
March 11, 1938 – July 19, 2018
Vernal Cousar was born on March 11, 1938 to the late Sam Thomas and Queen Esther Coker Cousar. He was one of sixteen children; ten sons and six daughters were born to this farming family of the Shiloh Community.
He graduated from Eastern High School in 1956 and joined the Army. He served his tour of duty in Germany. Vernal returned and cared for the farm until 1966 and then went to follow his dream to Live in California. While he was there, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Ada Benjamin. He then returned in 1968 and took full responsibility of the farm until 2006 when he began to face challenges with his health. Once his health rebound, he reduced his farming activities to an abundant vegetable garden crop. People from all over were able to enjoy the harvest of greens, beans, potatoes, and the like there of.
He was very active in his home church, Mt. Sinai AME Church, where he rarely missed a service. Being the great supporter of the church that he was, he served as a previous Trustee and was often the one who led maintaining the edifice when repairs needed to be made.
Vernal and Ada were with two beloved sons, Dwayne of North Charleston, SC and Vernal (Audrey) Cousar, Jr. of Stone Mountain, GA, and one loving daughter, Carrielle (Mykell) McNair of Clayton, NC.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Ada; three children; five grandchildren: Shannel, Jasmine, Jason, Major, and Zoey; two great-grandchildren, Shanntel and Amiya; four sisters: Flossie Cousar, Eliza Bethea both of Lynchburg, SC, Sallie (Leon) Taylor of Hackensack, NJ, and Willie Mae Quattlebaum of Bronx, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He will truly be missed as a husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. But he will not be forgotten.
The Family says to Vernal, "Sleep on, take your rest. We expect to see you again on the other shore."
