Rev. Dr. Timothy Jacob Bowman, a retired United Methodist minister and Purple Heart awarded Vietnam War veteran, passed away in Lexington County, South Carolina on November 19, 2024. He was born on May 30, 1949, in Sumter, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Thomie Elizabeth and Jake Bowman.
His ministry was marked by a deep commitment to church and community service, including roles with Dorchester County Head Start, the Jenkins Orphanage, and the Charleston Mayor's Advisory Committee. At Old Bethel UMC, he founded the Outreach Youth Alternative Program in downtown Charleston and served on numerous boards within the United Methodist Church.
Dr. Bowman is survived by his wife, Yvonne Davis Bowman; daughters, Dr. Pamela Bowman, Shenelle Bowman, and Jacobi Bowman; and grandchildren, Seth Franklin and Sydney Bloome. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Chenoa Franklin.
Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary, Inc.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at The Meeting Place Church of Greater Columbia located at 201 Columbia Mall Blvd, Columbia, SC 29223.
Interment will be held at 11am, Friday, December 6, 2024, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC 29229.
