Pastor Stanley E. Hayes Sr. was a native of Sumter by way of San Antonio, Texas.
The fifth of six children born to the late Edward and Rosa Lee Hayes was reared by his grandmother, Mazie Holmes.
He was married to his long-time sweetheart, Elect Lady Julie Ann McGee Hayes. To this nearly 40-year union, four sons and one daughter were born: Minister Stanley (Cheryl), Santanna (Caleisha), Shaddai (Crystal), Savannah and Sterling.
He graduated from Sumter High School in 1976. He continued his learning at Central Carolina Technical College, Morris College and the Full Gospel School of Ministry.
Later, Pastor Hayes graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies from the Minnesota Graduate School of Theology.
Pastor Hayes began his Christian service at his home church, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter.
The Elizabeth Baptist Church in Bishopville was his first pastoral appointment (1991 to 1995) and since 1995, he has been serving as the senior pastor and spiritual leader at Enon Baptist Church in Sumter.
He is the former chairman of the Executive Ministry (2005 to 2009) of the Sumter Baptist M&E Association, the vice moderator (2009 to 2013) and since 2013, the moderator of the Sumter Baptist M&E Association.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday at Enon Missionary Baptist Church, 2990 Pinewood Road, Sumter.
Masonic rites will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Pastor Hayes will lie in state at the Trinity Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday.
Funeral services will he held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall St., Pastor Larry C. Weston, the Rev. Dr. James Blassingame, eulogist.
Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery.
