Obituary

Sarah Adams Conyers was born, one of 14 children, to the late Robert and Jilful James Adams on June 26, 1921 in Rimini, SC. Sarah was most commonly called by her family, "Aunt Sally"; by friends, Mrs. Sally; and immediate family members, "Nanny" or "Nana." At an early age, she was inspired to move to Harlem, NY. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lindsay Conyers, Sr., and from this union they were blessed with one child, Lindsay, Jr. They resided mostly in Jamaica, NY. Sally accepted God and made Him head of her life at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Queens, NY. She was member of Local 32BJ Union, where she retired from One New York Plaza after 30 years.

Sarah A. Conyers departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Sumter Health & Rehab in Sumter, SC.

Sarah leaves to cherish her sweet memory: her son and daughter-in-law, Lindsay (Eloise) Conyers, Jr. of Sumter, Sc; three grandchildren: Barry (Roxanna) Conyers of South Ozone Park, NY, Alice (Prince, Sr.) Ward of Lexington, SC, and Leslie (Joseph II) Burrus of Garden City, NY; six great-grandchildren: Prince Ward, Jr., Lalah Conyers, Victoria Burrus, Samantha Burrus, Joseph Burrus III, and Lindsay Ward; a goddaughter, Barbara Canty; a godson, Sam Adams; special people who were dear to her heart: Esther Mae Perry (Julia), Glenda Wilder, Julia Clark Dubose, Nancy Davis, JoAnn Richburg, Sarah Holliday, Sam Adams, Moude and Lorraine Dow, Betty (Margaret) Sinkler, Mrs. Ripley, Mr. Frank, Mr. Johnnie, Octavia Johnson, Edna Cooper, Richard, Leon, Leroy, John, Jr., and Tisha Andrews, Cleo and Sarah Johnson, and Mr. Gordon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven sisters: Elease (Thomas) Jefferson, Lillie (Ernest) Richardson, Maggie (David) Adams-Jackson, Irene (John) James-Brown, Francis (Blade) Rosa-White, Rebecca (Lennon) Adams-Sinkler, and Irene (John) Sissy-Brown; and six brothers: Franklin (Mary) Adams, Preston (Eleanor) Adams, Peter Adams, Robert (Josephine) Adams, Enoch Adams, Govan (Mamie) Adams.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Conyers will be placed in the church on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 South Salem Avenue Sumter, SC 29150, with Rev. Dr. James Blassingame Officiating, and Rev. James Clark, Eulogist.

Interment will follow in Cain Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the home of her son, 2535 Carriage Drive Sumter, SC 29154.

Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
