Mrs. Sally Franklin Ward passed away quietly on the morning of September 9,
2016 at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She was born on November
30, 1928 to the late Hugh Franklin and Eliza White Franklin. Sally was a graduate
of Lincoln High School. She received a B.A. degree from Morris College and her
Master's degree in Education from USC. During her 27 years as an Educator, she
taught in several school districts including, Dillon, SC, Lakeland. Ga., Summerton,
S.C., and Sumter School District 17, Sumter. S.C. She retired from Sumter High
School in 1987.
In her early years, she was a member of Beulah A.M.E. Church and converted to
Catholicism in 1955. She became a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church
where she served as a CDD Teacher, Lector, President of the Women's Club, and
member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies' Auxillary. She also belonged to the
Ladies' Auxillary of the American Legion.
Sally leaves to mourn her daughter, Terri Hanley (Clarence) of Ruskin, Fl. and
son, Michael Ward (Shirley) of Bristow, Va. She also leaves six grandchildren:
LaToya Ward, Norfolk, Va., An'toine Hanley, Clearwater, Fl., Kendrick Ward,
Sumter, S.C., A'mour Brock, Seoul, Korea. Michelle Ward, Atlanta, Ga. and Tavan
Hanley, Orlando, Fl., ten great grandchildren, one sister, Mattie White, Brooklyn,
N.Y., one sister-in-law, Amelia Franklin, Sumter, S.C., a special cousin, Geraldine
Dinkins, Sumter, S.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sally is truly a rose in God's garden and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
She will be greatly missed by all!
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rudolph V. Ward, Sr, and
her son Rudolph V. Ward, Jr. Four sisters; Helen Franklin, Hilda Smith, Claudia
Laws, and Thelma China. One brother, Samuel J. Franklin.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral Service will he held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11am at St. Jude Catholic Church 611 West Oakland Street, Sumter
Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Family will be receiving friends at the home of her nephew, Rev. Robert L. China, Jr. 10 Bristol Circle, Sumter
