Ruth Melvinia Houck Glisson Anderson Clyburn was born on May 17, 1926 in Sumter, South Carolina. She departed this life on November 5, 2017. Her parents were Israel Houck and Elise Smith Houck.
She was reared by her mother and her second husband, Johnnie Glisson. She was the fifth (5) child of ten (10) children: Mattie, Israel, Louethel, James, Ruth, Ellen, Katie, John, Betty and James Lewis. Ruth was educated in the Sumter School System.
She was a conscientious , highly motivated girl, with a desire to excel. She attended Morris College and later, after moving to Philadelphia, Pa, she graduated from Nursing School. She was a nurse for over 40 years.
Ruth was a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, as a child. She attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church after her marriage to James Anderson. After she and James moved to Philadelphia, Pa, she attended The Met for church service under the leadership of Rev. Thea Jones.
It was there that she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.
