Roy Johnson, son of the late Mr. Justice and Lucille Jones Johnson, was born on September 2, 1947 in Sumter, South Carolina. He departed this life on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Sumter Health & Rehab Center.
Roy left South Carolina at an early age relocating to Jersey City, NJ, graduating from Dickerson High School. He was employed as a Cutter at Suzette Coat Factory in Jersey City for 28 years until his retirement. While in Jersey City, he was affiliated with Heavenly Temple COGIC prior to moving back to South Carolina in 2015.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Justice Johnson, Jr. and Tarshiky Johnson; one daughter, Lena Johnson all of Elizabeth, NJ; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a devoted sister, Rosa J. Tyler of Sumter, SC; a sister-in-law, Louise Johnson of Wedgefield, SC; and a lifetime companion, Charlene Gordon of Elizabeth, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alonzo Johnson; a daughter, Consuelo Davis- Howard; four brothers: Thomas Johnson, Lewis Johnson, John Johnson, and Jerry Johnson; and three sisters: Sarah Johnson, Lou Ella Anderson, and Jean Jenkins.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Johnson will be placed in the church on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 South Salem Avenue Sumter, SC 29150, with Rev. Charlie Howard Officiating, and Elder Roosevelt Cox, Jr., Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Walker Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the home, 1348 Cherryvale Drive Sumter, SC 29154.
Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
