Obituary
Rosa Lee Ray departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Sumter Health and Rehab. She was born in Jacksonville, FL on September 10, 1927 to the late Gertrude Preston.
Rosa Lee attended Dicks School in Sumter County. At an early age she joined Mt. Olive AME Church of Woodrow, SC., where she was a faithful member until the health began to fail. Rosa was a faithful member of the Colclough Missionary Unit. She was a member of Class # 1.
Rosa enjoyed cooking, cleaning, shopping and reading her bible.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories; seven daughters, Elizabeth Ray, Lillie (Leroy) Richardson, Rosetta Ray, Mary (Henry) Brisbon and Betty J. Ray all of Sumter, SC, Earlene (John) Graves of Fayetteville, NC, and Gloria (James) Diggs of Duncan, SC; five sons, Freddie (Johnnie Mae) Ray of Newark, NJ, Johnnie (Francis) Ray of Woodrow, SC, James (Zinta) Ray of Hopkins, SC, Michael (Leigh) Ray of Tulsa, OK, and Willie N. Ray Sr. of Sumter, SC; thirty-five grandchildren, sixty-three great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren; one adopted daughter, Julia Jenkins, one adopted son, William "Slim" Jenkins; a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, grandmother, Lydia Ray; daughter, Eva Gallishaw; son, Frank Jr. Ray.
There will be NO PUBLIC VIEWING AT THE MORTUARY.
Ms. Ray will be placed in the church on Friday at 11am for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 12noon at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church 2738 Woodrow Road, Sumter, SC with Rev. H.J. Murray, Officiating and Pastor Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens.
Family will be receiving friends at the home 5640 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter
