Obituary

Rosa Lee Dickey was born in Sumter County, South Carolina in the Shiloh Community on April 15, 1927. The second daughter of the late Paul and Pearl Miller Dickey. On Monday, February 12, 2018, Rosa Lee took her spiritual flight and entered into her eternal home.

Early in life, she became actively involved in Asbury United Methodist Church. She was devoted, and served faithfully and diligently in many ministries. She loved God and her church family.  She represented her church at annual conferences as lay delegate, she was a lay leader, a church school teacher, President of the United Methodist Women on the local level, served on the District and Conference level of the UMW, Chairperson of Finance, Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School teacher, Senior Choir, Trustee Chairperson, Chairperson of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and member of Church Women United.

Rosa Lee Dickey was educated in Sumter County Public Schools, attending the Asbury School, and graduating from St. John High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Morris College, and continuing graduate studies at South Carolina State University.

She was employed as a teacher at St. Mark Elementary School and as a teacher and Assistant Principal at St. John Elementary School. Through her love for humanity, she not only imparted knowledge but nurtured the development of her students with life-long skills. In each student, she planted the seeds of hope, determination and achievement. She was a mentor and a community advocate for many students and families. She retired after 35 years of service. She was everybody's favorite aunt, teacher, friend and a caring neighbor. Throughout her career she received many awards and accolades including having the St. John School Library named in her honor.

Rosa Lee Dickey was active in her community and civic affairs. She was an extraordinary example of Christian living and a loving spirit. She used her spiritual gifts and talents to serve her community. She was a charter member and Past Worthy Matron of Skyway Chapter No. 351 Order of Eastern Star, Lynchburg, SC, a member of the Household of Ruth # 3728 Lodge, NAACP, One More Effort Club, Shiloh Community Center, Sumter County Voters Board of Registration and a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed visiting family and friends.  She was a great conversationalist and an avid gardener. She was a florist and owner of Dickey's Florist for many years.

Cherishing fond and lasting memories are her two sisters: Maggie (Lawrence) Nelson of Lynchburg, SC and Pearl Dickey Lawrence of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Ralph W. Dickey of Lynchburg, SC; two sisters-in-law, Lutisha Dickey of Lynchburg, SC and Dorothy Dickey of Fayetteville, NC;  two loving nephews, Paul  Derrick Dickey (Cinder) and Paul D. Dickey Jr, of Lynchburg, SC; two uncles, Carl Miller of Philadelphia, PA and Hallie B. Miller of Clearwater, FL; nieces: Wilhelmenia (John) Presley, Beverly (Robert) Perry, Angela Slater, Roberta (Randy) Pritchept, Susan Benjamin, Claudette Harrison, Sonya (Eric) Travis, Valeska Nelson, Yvette Nelson, Jandi (James) Jefferson; nephews: Tyrone Harrison, Kimbal Harrison, Karl (Hazel) McLeod, Gerald McLeod, Donald Dickey, Levistan Dickey, Kenneth Dickey, Cedric (Rhonda) Nelson, Dennis Nelson, Ernest Dickey, Warren (Kimberly) Dickey, Maxsell (Monica) Dickey, Christopher (Latha) Dickey, Michael (LaChandra) Rapley, Thaddeus (Andrea) Dickey, Kevin Dickey and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by  two sisters,  Vertell Harrison and Annie Mcleod, and five brothers Robert, Paul, Ernest, Thaddeus, and Arnold Dickey.

Rosa L. Dickey was a loving sister, Aunt, friend, teacher and neighbor.  She cherished her family and exhibited love, caring and friendship to her family and community.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Asbury United Methodist Church from 6-8pm.

Ms. Dickey will be placed in the church on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11am at Asbury United Methodist Church, 355 Pudding Swamp Rd, Lynchburg SC, with Rev. Shirley McKnight and Reverend Ellis White officiating.

Interment will follow in Goodman Cemetery, Lynchburg, SC.

Family will receive friends at her home, 1805 Caution Lane, Lynchburg, SC 29080
