Mr. Roosevelt Dewitt of Lynchburg transitioned from this life peacefully on Friday June 24, 2016 at the age of 58. He was the son of the late Gladys and Buster Dewitt on July 28, 1957. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School as a member of the Class of 1976. Affectionately known as "Vet," many regard him as a "Lynchburg Legend."
Mr. Roosevelt Dewitt married his loving wife, Sylvia on June 24, 1981. They welcomed their son Roosevelt Lavel Dewitt on June 5, 1988. Mr. Dewitt had a love of fishing and football. You would often find him enjoying his favorite team, the Washington Redskins.
Mr. Roosevelt Dewitt was baptized under the ministry of Bishop Rouse at Greater Highway Apostolic Holiness Church.
Mr. Dewitt leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 years, Sylvia; his son, Roosevelt Lavel; special Godson, Jaquarius Wright; six sisters: Mary Bess of Darlington, SC; Pastor Dorothy Smith of Upper Marlboro, MD; Pastor Rosa (Robert) Smith of Landover, MD; Pastor Iola (Keith) Johnson of Bowie, MD; Ann (James) McFadden of Darlington, SC; Wilma (Paris) Graham of Lexington, SC; four brothers: Buster Dewitt, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; Leroy Dewitt of Baltimore, MD; Melvin (Renee) Dewitt of Washington DC; Sammie (Pearline) Dewitt of Lynchburg, SC; mother-in-law, Classie Epps; four sisters-in-law: Betty Ann McCray; Ella (Rickey) Wright; Rosa Epps; Kathy Carter; four brothers-in-law: James (Odean) Epps, Jr; Elroy (Floria Bell) Epps; Larry (Claudia) Epps; Tommy (Karina) Epps; an honorary sister-in-law Jewel Byrd; a special friend Edward Fullurd and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Shuler Dewitt, two sisters: Daisy Dewitt and Pearlie Mae Hart; father-in-law, Ike Epps, Jr.; three brothers-in-law: Joseph Epps, Frankie McCray and Harry Lee Carter.
P ublic Viewing will be held on Thursday June 30, 2016 from 2-7pm at Job's Mortuary. Mr. Dewitt will be placed in the church on July1, 2016 at 12noon for viewing until the hour of service. Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 1, 2016 at 1pm at Walk By Faith Church. Mayesville, SC with Pastor Joyce Nelson McCage, Officiating. Interment will follow in Wild Quarters Cemetery, Darlington, SC.
Family will be receiving friends at the home 45 Kids Lane, Lynchburg, SC.
