Robert Terry Hudson was born on March 25, 1960, in Dania, Florida, to Josephine G. Hudson and the late Robert Hudson Jr. He departed this earthly life on Oct. 5, 2017.
Robert received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a 1978 graduate of Sumter High School. He also attended Morris College Upward Bound Program in Sumter.
He was very active and loved music. Robert was a drum major with Bates Middle School Marching Band; saxophone player from seventh to 12th grade at Sumter High School; and played saxophone and keyboard with Black Frost and several other local bands. Robert was very talented and could pick up any instrument and play.
Robert was baptized at an early age at Ascension Chapel Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He studied the truth of Seventh Day Adventist with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Heyward Singleton. He truly loved the Lord.
Robert leaves to cherish: his loving and devoted mother, Josephine G. Hudson; brothers, Ronald S. (Vivian) Hudson and Bryant R. Hudson; sisters, Sandra Y. (Donald) White and Michelle A. Brunson; loving son, Torrey (Rachel) Shumate; grandchildren, Nakhia, Natalya and James Davis, all of Greenville; nieces, Jasmine N. (Mario) Raines of Augusta, Georgia, and Shyrle Benjamin and Crystal Hudson of Atlanta; nephews, Darrell A. (Yolanda) Brunson of Rock Hill, O'Ryan Polk, Bryan White, Bryant J. Hudson, Joshua Hudson and Tiric Gadson; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving father, Robert Hudson Jr.; nieces, Lakeiya Taneisha White and Lakeitha Regina Sims; nephews, Donald Gerard White and Treymaine Antoine Hudson; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Maple-Hudson.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Congruity Presbyterian Church, Gable, with the pastor, the Rev. Alonza Washington, officiating. Interment will follow at Congruity Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 959 Nathaniel St., Sumter.
