Rebecca Holliday was born Nov 21, 1921, in Sumter, SC to Frank Holliday and MaryJane Burgess Holliday. Rebecca peacefully passed away on March 17, 2024.
Rebecca was preceded in death by three brothers; Richard Burgess, George Holliday, and Frank Holliday, Jr, two sisters; Harriet Holliday Knox, Lena Holliday; a nephew, Morris Bernard Knox, and a daughter-in-law Peggy Ward Holliday.
Rebecca accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age joining the family church, Mt Pisgah A.M.E Church in Sumter, SC. Rebecca attended Sumter, SC Public Schools. After graduation, she attended Morris College in Sumter, SC. Upon receiving her degree, Rebecca taught public school for a few years in Orangeburg, SC before moving to New York City. Rebecca was an Executive Secretary to the President of Kayser-Roth for over forty years before her retirement. Rebecca's love for her hometown of Sumter, SC never wavered and she would make the journey home yearly to spend weeks with her brothers until their passing.
Rebecca was better known and affectionately called "Auntie" by her nieces and nephews. And called 'Bee' or "Bec" by her friends. She was a kind, sweet, and gentle person. Rebecca was an avid sports fan. She loved her New York Mets, Knicks, and Giants. In fact, on her "100th Birthday, she received a personal autograph from the New York Knicks power forward, Julius Randle.
Rebecca's survivors include one son, Theodore "Ted" Holliday of Linden, New Jersey, and one grandson, U.S. Army Sergeant Sheldon Holliday currently stationed in Germany, a nephew Benjamin A Knox, Jr of Sumter, SC, a niece Michelle Johnson of Sumter, SC, and host of grandnieces and grandnephews, other relatives, and friends including the life-long residents of 410 Central Park West.
