A loving brother, a caring uncle, a good friend, a great man of honor and integrity, a mighty man of God. This is the legacy Raymond left for all of us to remember him in our hearts. So now we say! The time has come for you to rest in peace. For you have earned your sleep, no more time to tarry here on Earth, but in Heaven with the Father for Keeps. We'll always hold and keep you eternally in our hearts.
Raymond Frierson passed peacefully from this life early Monday morning, June 18, 2018, after a decline in health. He was born March 2, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Hasker and Josephine Frierson.
Raymond received Christ during the early years of his life. He was a member of Union Station AME Church, Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, Victory Church, and Breakthrough Covenant Christian Center, under the leadership of Pastor Roosevelt Way until he was unable to attend regularly.
He attended Moore Elementary School in Sumter, SC and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965. Raymond further his education at Sumter Area Technical Education Center and received his certification in Welding, becoming one of the best known welders in this area and among other states.
Raymond enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years. He received numerous awards, such as National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter, 2nd Class Gunner Award and many more, for his outstanding service to the Army.
Raymond was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during his last days of his life. He was loved by his family, friends and community beyond measure and will be greatly missed by all of those who was touched by his life. He was affectionately called "Cool Breeze" by his motorcycle friends and classmates.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories two sisters, Willene Mellerson Wilkerson and Dorothy Frierson Howard; three brothers: Charlie, Michael, and McKever Frierson all of Sumter, SC; three aunts: Mary L. Brunson and Elizabeth McFadden, both of Sumter, SC and Mamie Frierson of Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by an infant son, Tyrone Frierson and a brother, Herbert Lee Mellerson.
Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Frierson will be placed in the church on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 S. Salem Avenue Sumter, SC, with Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Bowman, Sr. Officiating and Bishop Bennie L. Kingwood, Eulogist.
Interment will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11am in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
Family will receive friends at the home of his sister, 334 Mooneyham Road Sumter, SC, from 12pm-6pm daily.
