Obituary
Pearson York Sr. affectionately known as (Baby Ray), 70, husband of Betty Kennedy York, and the son of the late Jerome York, Sr. and Mabel Scott, was born December 4, 1946, in Lee County. He departed this life on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at his residence.
Pearson graduated from Eastern High School in Sumter County. He worked at Yuasa (formerly Exide Battery) for thirty-eight years, and Ashley Furniture for five years. He was presently employed at the University of South Carolina Sumter Campus until his illness.
Pearson was a member of Ebenezer AME Church.
Left to cherished Pearson's precious memories are his wife Betty Kennedy York; one son, Pearson (Michelle) York, Jr. Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Tammie Williams of the home, Paula (Karlef) Jefferson, Mayesville SC and Pamela (Bernard) White, Sumter SC; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Roosevelt (Dorothy) Scott, Bronx NY; Franklin (Pearline) York, Bronx NY; Jerome (Vera) York, Long Island City NY; four sisters, Frances (William) Sullins, Bronx NY; Dorothy Teel, Baltimore, MD; Flora Y. (Rev. Dr. Friendly) Gadson, Sumter SC; and Sharon Johnson, Sumter SC; a stepbrother, Randolph (Linda) Scott, Sumter SC; one uncle, Thomas (Lucile) York, Sumter SC; one aunt, Virginia Perry, Baltimore MD; two sisters-in-law, Delores Nelson, Philadelphia PA and Nora Belser, Mayesville SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pearson was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Baby Johnson and one brother, Philip Johnson, Jr., mother-in-law, Laura Bennett and one brother-in-law, Floyd Teel.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary Inc.
Mr. York will be placed in the church on Saturday at 10AM for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11am at Ebenezer AME Church, Mayesville, SC with Pastor Rev. Phillip Washington, Eulogist, and Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, Officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant AME Church Cemetery, Lynchburg, SC
Family will be receiving friends at the home 2045 Avenue B, Mayesville, SC 29104
