Naomi Chestnut, departed this life on November 23, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina. She was born on August 10, 1953 to the late Reverend James W. Chestnut and Lucille Manning Chestnut.
At an early age she was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church of Sumter, SC. Later she became a member of St. Mark UM Church of Oswego Highway in Sumter, SC until her passing.
She was a graduate of Sumter High School. She attended three colleges USC Sumter, Central Carolina Technical College, and Lesley University. She finalized her Master's in Education at Lesley University. She was employed with the Sumter School District 17 for over 35 years, while she was a devoted teacher she also helped children that needed one on one help with behavioral and academic needs. She was also a devoted bus driver that put her all into everything she did.
Naomi leaves to cherish her loving memory, her devoted daughter, Shironica L. (John) Wilson, son, Jamie L. (Kimberly) Chestnut Sr.; four granddaughters, Lisha A. Chestnut, Jonnel Wilson, Kimbrianna Chestnut and Kyrianna Chestnut; two grandsons, Jamie Chestnut Jr and Johnny LaCosta; four brothers, Moses (Katrina) Chestnut, McDonald (Flossie) Chestnut, Isiah (Julia) Chestnut all of Baltimore, MD and John Chestnut of Sumter, SC; one sister, Catherine McCray; five aunts; extended church family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, David and William Chestnut, four sisters, Bertha Montgomery Gable, Beatrice Command, Hattie Chestnut and Hattie McNeal Warren.
Funeral Services will be held on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2017 at 1pm at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center (Westend Community Church) 101 S. Salem Ave, Sumter.
Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Family will be receiving friends at the home 950 Salterstown Road, Sumter, SC.
