Obituary

Mildred Roman Harrison Jinwright, wife of the late Van Junious Jinwright, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT. Born on May 8, 1935 in Sumter, SC, she was the daughter of the late George Roman, Sr. and Malvenia Reed Roman.

Mildred attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Hamden High School, Hamden, CT. Mildred's desire for learning and personal development propelled her to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College in Manchester, NH on May 17, 1986.

Mildred was employed for more than thirty five years in the health care profession as a caregiver, instructor, and supervisor in the clinical chemistry sterile supply department at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT until retirement.

Mildred was a devoted mother and family values were very important to her. She was a faithful member of Saint Paul Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, New Haven, Connecticut, where she served in many capacities with honor and distinction. After retirement she returned to her native home of Sumter, SC.  She rejoined Saint Paul AME Church, and served as a member of the Missionary Society, the Senior Citizens, Senior Choir, Church School and Class Leader.  She was also a faithful member of the McKiever Club.

Precious memories will be shared by her loving children: Rena H. (Edward) Mack, Varagena Harrison, Robert, Jr. (Myrna) Harrison, Bruce Harrison, Thadas Harrison, Venovia H. (Dimas) Chardon ,all of Hamden, CT, Vanessa Jinwright of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Janice J. Morton of New Haven, CT, and Thaddaus Jones of Charlotte, NC; twenty grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren;  sisters: Sadie R. (Willis) White, Flora R. (Thomas) York, Gloria R. (Lucius) Felder, Barbara R. Jackson, all of Sumter, SC; brother, Johnnie L. (Miriam) Roman, Sr. of Sumter, SC; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Dailey of New Haven, CT, Loretta (Robert) James, and Vesta Ree (Thomas) Bellamy of Winnabow, NC; brothers-in-law: McKinley Wilson, Sr. of Sumter, SC, John Bell, and Alexander Bell of New Haven, CT, Christopher  Gause of Wilmington, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Jinwright will be places in the church on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 1pm for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 25, 2018 at St. Paul AME Church 835 Plowden Mill Road Sumter, SC, with Pastor Frederick Graves Officiating.

Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Family will be receiving at the 1495 Reedroman Road (Radical Rd) Sumter, SC.
