Obituary

Mary Jane Smiling-Wade departed this life on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at her residence in Rembert.

Born on Sept. 13, 1935, in Paxville, she was a daughter of the late Shiloh and Leler Smiling and beloved mother and friend to many. Mary Jane was raised in a Christian home. She attended Sumter County public schools in South Carolina. Later, she relocated to Long Island, New York. She loved being around her family and friends. Although she loved talking about God and reading Scriptures, she was quite the feisty one and was quick to share what was on her mind. She was a devoted homemaker and beacon of light for her children and all of those she touched in life. Mary Jane accepted Christ at a very early age and joined Bethesda Baptist Church. After relocating to New York, she stayed connected to a church, singing on the choir and serving in other capacities in the church that she became a part of. In 1992, she moved to Rembert, where she joined Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She later rejoined Bethesda Baptist Church as she said she wanted to go back to the church where she started her Christian journey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, two sons and one granddaughter.
Precious thoughts will forever live in the memories of her children, Shiloh Wade of Minneapolis, James (Lisa) Wade of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Kenneth Wade of San Antonio, Mary Ella Wade of Rembert, Mary Elizabeth Wade of Cherryvale and Mary Marie Wade of Brooklyn, New York; two sisters, Pauline Mayrant and Margaret (Robert) Myers; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one aunt; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and precious caregivers, Courtney Brooks, Mary Wade and Lelia Jenkins.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Wade will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Bethesda Baptist Church, 4745 U.S. 15 S., Sumter, with the Rev. Ronnie Smiling officiating and the Rev. George Smiling, eulogist.

Interment will follow in Bethesda Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at the home, 5825 New Hope Church Road, Rembert, SC 29128.
