Mary P. McFadden, the daughter of the late Anthony Tony Pleasant and Lucinda Thompson Pleasant, was born on March 8, 1922 in Charleston, SC. She departed this life on April 29, 2016 at Elbert Memorial Hospital in Elberton, GA.
Mary was devoted to her family and the rearing of their children. She worked in the home until the youngest child (Alfred) was six years old. She later began working outside the home at Milford Plantation for the Clarks. She worked until the age eighty-one. The Clarks will forever cherish the service that Mary gave to their family.
S he was a lifetime member of Zion Hill AME Church in Pinewood, SC, where she served faithfully until her health declined. Mary loved singing praises to God on the church choir and keeping accurate records of the missionary funds. She left with much regrets to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Elberton, traveling from South Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey.
She was united in Holy Matrimony at an early age to the late Henry McFadden in 1937, to that union eleven children were born.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories; one son, Richard (Ruth) Henry of Newark, NJ, daughters, Mary (Lawyer) Sue of Elberton, GA, Deloris and Ernestine of Piscataway, NJ, Lucinda of Pinewood, SC, and Nellie of Ellenwood, GA; three sisters-in-law, Margaret (Edward) Canty, Julia Ann Pleasant of Summerton, SC, and Gail Pleasant of New Jersey; two brothers-in-law, John McFadden of Pinewood, SC and Ben McFadden of Roseboro, NC; three daughters-in-law, Dolly McFadden of Piscataway, NJ, Ruth McFadden of Newark, NJ and Pandora McFadden of Aquasco, MD; eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great grands and five great great grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 3-7pm at Job's Mortuary. Mrs. McFadden will be placed in the church on Friday at 12noon for viewing until the hour of service Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 1pm at Mt. Zion AME Church, Pinewood, SC. with Rev. Malcolm O. Simpson, Officiating Interment will follow in Manning Cemetery. Pinewood, SC.
