The season of earthly transition for Marvin "Rock" Guinyard, 76, husband of Hattie Mae Golden Guinyard and son of the late Walter and Lillian Hopkins Guinyard, came on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter, SC. He was born on Aug. 20, 1942, in St. Matthews, SC.

As a youth, he was reared in a Christian home and attended Emancipation Missionary Baptist Church in St. Matthews. In his adult-life, he joined WestEnd Community Church in Sumter, SC. As a young man, he entered the Air Force and served 26 years retiring as a Master Sergeant at Shaw AFB in Sumter in 1988. It was at Shaw AFB that he met, the love of his life Hattie "Georgette" Golden. They were married for 52 years, and reared 4 children.

After retiring from the military, Marvin became employed by Service Merchandise (Sumter Mall) and Sumter School District 17.

Those left to embrace many wonderful memories are his wife, Hattie "Georgette" Guinyard of the home; three Sons: Gregory Guinyard of Columbia, SC, Marvin (Taffy) Guinyard of Charlotte, NC, and Mark Guinyard of Sumter; one daughter, Sonia Mickens of Sumter;  four grandchildren: Tanashia Guinyard, McKynlee Major, London R. Guinyard, and Bryson Guinyard; five sisters: Vertell Robinson, Barbara Guinyard both of New York, Margie (Frank) Grover of Orangeburg, Janice Guinyard of St. Matthews, and Sandra Truick, Columbia; four brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Freddie Guinyard, and three sisters: Walter Mae Scott, Carolyn Glover, and Vernette Berry; his father-in-law, James Golden and mother-in-law, Clara Mae Golden.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary, Inc.

Mr. Guinyard will be placed in the church on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:00am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at WestEnd Community Church, 101 South Salem Avenue, Sumter, SC, with Rev. Larry C. Weston Officiating.

Interment will be held at 11am on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the home, 3623 Beacon Drive, Sumter, SC.
