Mrs. Maggie Scarborough Copeland, daughter of the late Lela Scarborough and Warren Scarborough, was born on April 23, 1917 in Lee County, SC. She was married to the late Harry Copeland, Jr. Mrs. Copeland departed this life on Monday, January 29, 2018 at her home.

At an early age, she joined New Zion AME Church in Wisacky, SC. She attended the public schools of Lee County, SC. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, working in her flower yard, and sewing. She would sometimes make her own clothes as she was a very impressive dresser, even into her golden years. "Sista," as she was affectionately known, loved her family; her family was the joy of her life. She also loved the Lord and enjoyed singing old familiar hymns.

Last year she celebrated her 100th Birthday and was recognized on WLTX News 19.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a loving and devoted daughter of the home, Mrs. Dora (James) Parrott; a loving son, Mr. John (Marie) Scarborough of Sumter, SC; three step-children: Anna Copeland of Sumter, SC, Bertha Mabry of Baltimore, MD, and Ruth Ann (Alonzo) Hampton of Mayesville, SC; one niece, Lucille Damon of Mayesville, SC; one nephew, Samuel (Christina) Cole of Sumter, SC; twenty-eight grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, twenty-one great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Copeland, Sr.; four step-children: Mattie Jones, Cornelius Dantzler, Harry Copeland, Jr., and Nathaniel Copeland; four grandchildren: Harry L. Gaymon, Jr., Randy Gaymon, Gloria Jean Gaymon, and Darrell L. Parrott; and two great-grandchildren, Corey Henry and Javon Gaymon.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Copeland will be placed in the church on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12pm for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 1pm at Mt. Pleasant AME Church, 1800 Vista Lane Sumter, SC, with Rev. Donnie McBride, Officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant AME Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at 2835 Lower Rd., Sumter, SC 29153, from 12-9pm.
