Obituary

Lucille Burgess Hastie, 99, widow of Deacon Ezekiel R. Hastie and daughter of the late James and Essie Gamble Burgess, was born on March 11, 1922 in Manning, SC. She entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 09, 2021 at her residence.

Lucille attended the public schools of Clarendon County, graduating from Manning Training High School and then graduated from Morris College. In Sumter, she met and married Ezekiel R. Hastie, her loving husband of over seventy years. She taught in the former Sumter School District #2 for over 30 years. Lucille was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Deaconess Ministry, Sr. Missionary Ministry, Choir Ministry, and was the Church School Ministry's Secretary for over 50 years, and a past member of The Wateree Baptist Association Lower Division Women's Auxiliary Executive Board. She was also a member of various civic organizations: The Starlight Savings Club, South Main Street Neighborhood Watch Association, and the South Sumter Beautification Association.

Her precious memories will be forever cherished by two sons, James R. (Cynthia) Hastie of Fairburn, GA and Rev. Calvin K. (Ann) Hastie, Sr. of Sumter, SC; one daughter, Brenda J. Hastie of Sumter, SC; six grandchildren: Randall B. (LeKisha) Fulwood, Cashena L. Hastie, MD, Attorney Calvin K. (Celita) Hastie, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Rashad Shariff of Cincinnati, OH, Chantal E. (Luke) Salazar of King of Prussia, PA, and Kiera E. (Jamie) Palma of Browns Summit, NC; six great-grandchildren: Shammond R. Fulwood and Darius B. Fulwood of Pamlico, SC, Jamilyah K. Corbitt, Calvin K. Hastie III, Foster R. Hastie of Columbia, SC, and Tia Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn B. Morant of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to the Prisma Health Hospice Team; caregivers: Mrs. Helen Prince, Ms. Gloria Hilton and Cousin, and Mrs. Delores W. Green.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ms. Doris H. Fulwood; one son, Mr. Bernard C. Hastie; four sisters: Mrs. Helen B. Martin, Mrs. Thelma B. Williams, Mrs. Florence B. Johnson, and Mrs. Essie Mae B. Harvin; two brothers, Mr. Enoch Burgess and Mr. James Burges, Jr.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Hastie will be placed in church on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 3249 Highway 15 South, Sumter, SC 29150, with Rev. Willie A. Wright, Jr. Officiating, assisted by Rev. Leroy Blanding, Sr.

Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park
