Louise "Doddie" Generette Knox Hickson was born on August 13, 1924, in Sumter, South Carolina, to the late Florence Miller Generette McCoy and James "Ting" Generette. She transitioned from this life to her eternal home on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
She was married to the late Harry "Sonny" Knox; to this union seven children were born; Annie, John, Harry, Jr., Arthur, Adeline, Elouise, and Rosa. After Harry's death, she met and married Wade Legrande Hickson, who has been her loving life partner for the past thirty-eight years.
Louise gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, Woodrow, South Carolina. She later joined Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the Session, a Board of Deacons, Usher Board, member of the Gospel Choir, and Presbyterian Women's organization. She also served in other capacities wherever she was needed. She committed her life to the Lord; her service to God and others was endless.
She worked in domestic service for the Graham Family and for Solomons Home, both in Sumter, South Carolina. After many years of service, Louise retired from Solomons in 1981.
Louise was a loving and caring person. She shared her gift of love and compassion with all she came in contact with. She enjoyed helping people and often visited the sick and frequently checked in on her friends and family. She was a true and dedicated friend.
She leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her homegoing, her children: Arthur (Marie) Knox, Adeline (Prince) Albert, Elouise (Earl) Greene; Rosa (Winford) Ulmer; step-children Mary (Daniel) Swinton and Osborne "Buster" Ross; siblings, James "Son" Generette, Katie Mae (Luther) Wells, Sammie Lee (Betty) Generette, and Mabel Sexton; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; eighteen step great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted daughters Joeann White and Dorothy Jackson, special friend Estelle Weston and other friends who will dearly miss her.
In addition to those named, she was preceded in death by children, Annie, John and Harry, Jr., her sister Lillie Mae McFadden, her step-mother Judie Generette, step-siblings, Rebecca Generette and "Boo" Generette and two step-grandchildren.
Public Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral Cortege will leave the residence at 12:25pm on Monday
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1pm at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (USA) Dalzell, SC with Rev. Carnell Hampton, Moderator
Interment will follow in Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.
Family will be receiving friends at the home, 4785 Cotton Acres Road, Sumter
