Obituary

Lillian Seymour Mitchell departed her earthly journey on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at her residence in Sumter.

Lillian was born on Dec. 23, 1992, in Sumter County and was a daughter of the late Griffin Seymour Sr. and Viola Wilson Seymour Gordon. Lillian was educated in the public school system in Sumter County. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and became a member of Mulberry Missionary Baptist Church. Lillian joined the ushers board ministry and served as the first elected secretary. She relocated to Trenton, New Jersey, where she was a stunning model for Lane Bryant. Lillian had a passion for helping others as this led her into the profession of nursing. While in New Jersey, she also met the love of her life, Harry Mitchell. After spending wonderful years in New Jersey, Lillian and her late husband, Harry Mitchell, moved to his hometown of Thomasville, Georgia. Lillian, known to many as "Aunt Lill," was a very strong, affectionate, loving and caring wife. She enjoyed spending time with her family as she was very passionate about her family's history and reminiscing about her childhood days. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, creating flower arrangements, Major League Baseball and Gospel Channel programs on TV, singing and reading Bible Scriptures.

Loving memories will be cherished by one stepsister, Jennifer Pearson of Sumter County; two stepchildren, Harry Mitchell Jr. (Lillian) and Jacquelyn Cordy (Christopher); one step-granddaughter, Shelley Oglesby; one step great-granddaughter, Brayven Thomas; a loving caretaker, Virginia McGill (niece); seven generations of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Harry Mitchell; two brothers, Griffin Seymour Jr. and Marion Seymour; six sisters, Susan Johnson, Zola S. Clark, Marie S. Tomlin, Pearl Smalls, Theola Benjamin and Octavia Gordon; three stepbrothers, Stedward Gordon, Walter Gordon and Marshall Gordon; and five stepsisters, Gracie Pringle, Ethel English, Leah McKnight, Arnetha Cabbagestalk and Juanita Hall.
