Leroy Woods Jr., son of Mary Woods and the late Leroy Woods Sr. was born January 27, 1955 in Sumter County. God called one of his angels home on January 11, 2017 at the Palmetto Health Toumey Hospital, Sumter, South Carolina.
He graduated from Maywood High in 1973.
At a young age he joined Antioch Methodist Church.
He was a dedicated member and trustee officer of the church. Leroy's employment history included enlistment in the United States Army, Bendix, BD, and Union Camp. He had two basic philosophies regarding work "your work is a reflection of worth" and "family first." Although a less than average life span, Leroy did not live an average life. He traveled where he wanted to travel, laughed inappropriately at every chance, learned what he wanted to learn, fix what he wanted to fix and loved cars. Mark Twain once said "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time."
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, his wife of 41 years the overly devoted Helen and his proudest accomplishments five sons Tejon (Debbie), Ralph (Lorraine), Travis (Anna), Letroy, Bryant; his only daughter Angela; three sisters, Francenia (Herman) Vaughn of Sumter, SC, Carrie (Reggie)Taylor of Columbia, SC and Evelyn (Newton) Loo of Poughkeepsie, NY; three brothers Wayne Woods, James (Cynthia)Woods, and Olin Woodsall of Sumter, SC; mother-in-law Dorieta T. Porter; four sisters-in-law, a special sister-in-law Nevetta McKnight; five brothers-in-law; thirteen grandchildren ; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
In addition to father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law John Porter, two brothers-in-law Solomon Porter and Arthur Porter and one sister-in-law Joanne Woods.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Woods will be placed in the church on Sat. at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Service will be held on Sat. Jan 14 at 11am at Mt. Olive AME Church, Woodrow, SC with Pastor Rev. Friendly Gadson and Rev. Raymond Cook, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Family will be receiving friends at the home 3565 Highway 15 North, Sumter.
