Obituary

Deacon Lee H. Major, 76, son of the late John and Minnie Smith Major, was born on January 10, 1944 in Clarendon County, SC. He departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Agape Hospice House in Columbia, SC.

Lee accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Rock Hill Baptist Church in Manning, SC. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962 and then joined the U.S. Air Force.

After serving four years in the military, he was honorably discharged in Philadelphia, PA. Then Lee moved to Brooklyn, NY and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. There he met and married his wife, MaeTroy Little. They had three children together.

Lee pursed a great career working for the NYC Dept. of Corrections. He was promoted several times and his last rank was Deputy Warden. Lee retired after 26 years of strong dedication for his job in 1995. Also, during Lee's working years, he had gone to John Jay College for Criminal Justice. He graduated with a B.S in Behavioral Science. After retirement, Lee relocated to Sumter, SC. He worked for the S.C school system.

Lee Major was very active in the communities, civil organizations, and local churches. Lee was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, LeQuel (Calvin) Major-Starks of Virginia Beach, VA and Sidney Saunders of Palm Bay, FL; a son, Rodney Little of Queens, NY; six grandchildren; a sister, Eliza (George) Lewis of Sumter, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, MaeTroy; son, Paxton Little; and two brothers, James and John, Jr.

Public Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Graveside Services will be held at 12noon on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229

Family will receive friends at the home of his sister, 201 Tucson Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
