Joseph Wilson, widower of Suressa Shaw Wilson, was born on October 22, 1944 in Brogdon, SC to Ruth Wilson Service and the late Bobby Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was educated at Lincoln High School and graduated in 1962.
In 1964 he was drafted into the United States Army. Wilson served as a Telecommunications Operator. He was enlisted from 1964- 1972. He also received several medals for his service. Later, in life he worked at several places of employment, to include Modern Dye, for 14 years and construction worker.
Wilson retired and began singing gospel with the Junior Wells and The Gospel Stars.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his mother, Ruth Wilson Service; four sons, Joseph Wilson Jr., Charles Wilson, Randell Wilson and Shaun McClam; one daughter, Theresa Wilson; grandchildren, Ninia Wilson, Randell Wilson, Shekim Nelson, Lakisha Epps, Keyoshia Wilson and Morgan Wilson; ten great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Wilson, sister, Addy Robinson and his loving wife of 40 years, Suressa Wilson.
Public Viewing will be held on Sat. Nov. 18 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Wilson will be placed in the church on Sun at 1pm for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Service will be held on Sun. November 19, 2017at2pm at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center (Westend Community Church) 101 S. Salem Ave. Sumter with Rev. Albert Robinson, Officiating
Interment will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11am at Florence National Cemetery
Family will be receiving friends at the home 140 West Red Bay Road, Sumter
