Joreatha L. Gadson, the beloved widow of The Reverend Charles E. Gadson, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, peacefully entered eternal life on Monday, December 13, 2021.
Born in Lee County, SC on March 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Viola Lowery. She accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age and attended her home church St. Peter AME Church in Mayesville, SC. Joreatha later went on to join Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, SC, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, Hospitality Ministry, Women's Ministry, The Widows Ministry and served as the President of the Pastor Aid Ministry. She was also active in the Willing Workers Club and a member of the National Federation of the Blind Sumter Chapter.
She was educated in Lee County Schools and later attended Morris College in Sumter, SC where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She worked in Lee County, Anderson County and later retired from Clarendon County — Manning Primary School in March of 2003. After retiring, she continued her dedication to teaching children by working with the HYPE Afterschool Program.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her loving children: Deacon Barney A. Gadson (Dorothy Gadson), Tracey M. Gadson (Jesse) Johnson, Stacey L. Gadson (Lucky) Fulwood, Deacon Tyrone T. (Kenya) Gadson, Winfield D. (LaShondra) Gadson, Sr.; Grandchildren: Shawn D. McGee, Brittney I. Gadson, Jocelyn M. Fulwood, Tenesha M. Gadson, Malcolm J. (Amanda) Fulwood, Dayna T. Butler, Jessica J. Johnson, Martin J. Fulwood, Breanna L. Gadson, Jesse C. Johnson,
Jesstin I. Johnson, Winfield D. Gadson Jr., Mackenzie E. Gadson, Grace J. Gadson, Alison J. Gadson, Avis (Callon) Green, and Kimberly (Qyint) Claiborne; Great-grandchildren: Kailan A. McGee, Kamdyn A. McGee, Bryson A. Williams, Braden A. Gadson, Christopher J. Fulwood, Dakota Little, Darius Little Jr., Maddison B. Little, Jesse J. Jennings IV, Callie Green and Jacob T. Bell; Siblings: Earnestine Singletary of Washington, DC, Mazarine (Willie B) Parrott of Clinton, MD, Jethro "Peter" Lowery of Laurel, MD, Betty (Henry) Wilson of Sumter SC, Nathaniel (Leola) Lowery of Lynchburg, SC and Johnathan (Mary Ann) Toney of Sumter, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Edna Tutt, Dorothy Bennett, Mozell White, Ruby Walter, Herman Lowery, Evelyn Toney and Lillie Jones.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 4-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter, SC 29150, with Pastor Larry C. Weston, Eulogist and Elder Isaiah Sierson, Presiding. In accordance with CDC guidelines, all who are planning to attend the service, (with the exception of the immediate family) must show proof of full vaccination for entry. Masks are required.
Interment will follow in St. Peter AME Church Cemetery.
