John Henry Waddell

John Henry Waddell, 91, widower of Delores Waddell and son of the late General Branson Waddell and Jesse Hoskins Waddell, was born on May 27, 1935 in Asheboro, NC.

After graduating from Central High School in Asheboro, North Carolina, John was employed as a metalworker by the United States Mint in Manhattan, New York City. He took pride in his abilities and was consistently providing for his family.

In 2014, John joined Shekinah Glory Worship Center in Harlem and served as Deacon until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He remained faithful to the Lord with daily Bible reading and ceaseless prayer.

A fan of New York sports, John's favorite teams were the Mets, Yankees, and Knicks. His treasured hobbies included collecting postage stamps and rare coins.

John's sense of humor and intellect were true to his character. Amazingly sharp with world events, he held stimulating conversations and didn't hold back from political views.

John will be remembered as someone who always saw the best in a person. He had a gift for making you feel seen, and you never left his presence without feeling a little lighter. His warm smile and gentle spirit welcomed everyone he met with friendliness and grace.

He now rests peacefully in God's eternal glory with dearly departed Mr. General Branson Waddell (father), Mrs. Jesse Hoskins Waddell (mother), wife Delores Sonia Waddell, siblings Ada Whatley, Rosa Garner and James Waddell, and children Deborah and Jermaine.

John is truly loved and missed by surviving children Eloise, Sonya, Dana, and John Jr., as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friend Mattie Ellison.
