Obituary

Jimmie Conyers Boatwright was born the 5th of 7 children on October 20, 1934 in Marion County, SC to the late Allie and Ruby Lee Peoples Conyers. Jimmie transitioned peacefully on May 31, 2019.

Jimmie was educated in the Marion County School District and was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church. As a young woman, she relocated to Long Beach, NY, where she joined the Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church and was very active for many years. Ultimately, Jimmie moved on to become a New York state employee, where she remained until retirement in 1990 after 30 years of service. She then moved back to SC, where she settled in Sumter in 1993.

Upon relocating, she returned to her family roots at Friendship A.M.E Church in the Silver community of Clarendon County, where she remained a very active member until her death. As a faithful member, she belonged to and actively participated in several church organizations.

Those left to cherish Jimmie's fond memories are her sons, Dean (Ava) Boatwright Jr. of Charlotte, NC and Norman (Priscilla) Williams of Chesapeake, VA; a daughter, Doris Best of Schenectady, NY; a sister-in-law, Flossie Conyers of Long Beach, NY; special cousins, Horace Marshall (Renee) Richburg and Barbara Ann Richburg both of Sumter; lifelong friends (who were like sisters), Josephine Robinson of Slocumb, AL and Willie Lee Corley of Bamberg, SC; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, fourteen nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends whom she loved unconditionally.

In addition to her parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Boatwright, Sr.; twin brothers, Abraham and Isaac Conyers; a brother, Leroy Conyers; sisters: Lillie Ann Conyers Madden, Ruby Lee(Lena)Conyers McCummings, and Irene Conyers Dingle; and a daughter, Linda Boatwright Ligon.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Boatwright will be placed in the church on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 1pm for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Friendship AME Church 6156 Furse Road Pinewood, SC 29125, with Rev. Dr. Mary F. Rhodes, Pastor, Officiating.

Interment will follow in Friendship Church Cemetery

Family will receive friends at the 111 North Pike West Sumter, SC 29153.
