Jesse Richard Calhoun, Jr. made his earthly departure on Sunday morning, November 18, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born October 19, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Jesse Richard Calhoun, Sr. and Caro Baxter Calhoun.

Richard, as he was affectionately called, received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County: having attended Johnson School and St. John School..

Richard was a life-long member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Manning, SC. His grandmother took him to church from a child, and he received his spiritual nourishment and growth which endured to his departure.

Richard had excellent work ethics and was a productive, contributing member of society. He believed in doing a job well or none at all.  He was employed with the South Carolina Department of Transportation in Sumter for 33 ½  years. His retirement followed after his tenure there.

Richard leaves to cherish precious memories his loving wife, Bertha M. Galloway Calhoun of the home; a daughter, Tammy D. Calhoun of Columbia, SC; a step-son, Willie Galloway, Jr. of Sumter, SC; two grandsons, Ray K. Ingram, Jr. of Columbia, SC and Aaron (Krysten) Ingram of Irby, TX; three granddaughters: Brittany N. (Dominique) Alexander of Greenville, SC; Kayla Isaac of Charlotte, NC, and Erica D. Calhoun of Sumter, SC; two sisters, Ida M. (Joseph) Bolden of Capitol Heights, MD and Daisy B. Calhoun of Sumter, SC; a great-granddaughter, Ebony Isaac of the home; four additional great-grandchildren; one uncle, Douglas (Catherine) Baxter of Lynchburg, SC; two aunts, Cardia Gamble of Baltimore, MD and Luetisher Dickey of Lynchburg, SC; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews,  other relatives, and friends.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Calhoun will be placed in the church on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 12noon on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Elizabeth Baptist Church 4829 Alex Harvin Highway Manning, SC 29102, with Pastor Terry R. Johnson Officiating.

Interment will follow in Elizabeth Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the home, 850 Illery Road Sumter, SC 29153.
