Obituary

Janette Marie Mickens, 66, was born on December 18, 1952 in Lee County, to the late Lawrence and Anne Bell Stuckey Lewis. Janette departed this life on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Janette was a graduate of Ashwood Central High School, Lee County. She later pursued a career in the medical field where she attended ATEC Woolard Technical School in Camden, SC, receiving a diploma as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Other certifications include an Early Childhood Development Diploma from Central Carolina Technical College, Licensed Phlebotomist, and Certified Hemodialysis Technician. She worked for McCoy Nursing Center in Bishopville, SC for 11 years before seeking employment with Sumter Dialysis as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician for a total of 14 years. She worked for Care South of Bishopville, SC as a Phlebotomist until her health prevented her services.

Janette married the late Roy G. Mickens in 1974 and three children were born from this union. Janette loved working in the church and spending time with God through studying her Word daily. She was affiliated with New Haven United Methodist Church, where she was a part of the New Haven United Methodist Senior Choir and United Methodist Women Committee, she never grew weary of serving God's people.

Janette leaves to cherish her loving memory her children: Rory (Shoney) Mickens of Sumter, Angela (Allen) Abelard of McDonough, GA and Tiffany Mickens of Sumter; twelve grandchildren: Rodasiah Mickens, Carlos Wells, Ty'Tiyanna Scott, NaQuoa Abelard, Keirelle Mickens, NaKayla Abelard, Ty'Asiah Mickens, Roniya Mickens, Darryon Mickens, Gabrielle Abelard, Noah Abelard, and X'Zavion McKnight; one brother, Lawrence (Willie Mae) Stuckey; two sisters, Janie S. Williams of Newark, NJ and Perthenthia (Harmon) Jenkins of Dalzell; one special sister, Mamie (Hosie) Hickman and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded was in death by three sisters: Wilhemenia Stuckey Shaw, Lucille Stuckey McDaniel and Rosa Lee Stuckey Burris; two brothers, John Lee Stuckey and Thomas Stuckey; one nephew, John Burris and one niece Harmeitra Jenkins.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Mickens will be placed in the church on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at New Haven United Methodist Church 3159 Red Hill Road Bishopville, SC 29010, with Rev. Blondell Miller Officiating, and Rev. Raymond Cook, Eulogist.
