Obituary

James Dennis Gibson, the 7th child of nine children born to the late Clarence L. Gibson and Mrs. Pattie J. Gibson on September 3,1956 in Sumter County. He departed this life on December 3, 2017, at VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W. VA.

Dennis, as he was affectionately called accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and joined Ebenezer A.M.E Church. He received his early education from Mayesville Institute and was a 1974 graduate from Mayewood High School. He then attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh NC. Later he began his military service and joined the United States Navy and he served and retired after many years from the Navy Reserve. Afterwards, he worked in the prison system at Lofton Correctional Facility in Virginia.

Dennis loved music and enjoyed playing the trumpet. He loved his family and friends and considered himself as a master chess player.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his daughter, Deanna Gibson Gilbert, of Washington, DC; his mother Pattie J. Gibson of Mayesville, SC; two brothers: George(Sarah) Gibson, William (Lillie) Gibson; three sisters: Jessie (Robert) Washington, Irene E. Gibson, Wilhelmina G. Washington, all of Mayesville SC; two sister-in-laws: Sandra Gibson and Ruby Gibson of Sumter, SC; one brother-in-law: Willie C. Williams of Timmonsville SC; nine nieces, 8 nephews, three aunts: Jeanie Jefferson, Helen Walker and Nancy Jefferson; a special cousin whom he lived with Leroy and Helen Gibson, Washington DC and a multitude of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Clarence L. Gibson Sr, two brothers; Clarence L. Gibson Jr and Rev Malachi Gibson; one sister: Julia G. Williams.

Public Viewing will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Gibson will be placed in the church on Monday at 11am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday Dec. 11 at 12noon at Ebenezer AME Church with Pastor Phillip Washington, Officiating.

Interment will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 11am at Florence National Cemetery, Florence, SC.

In Lieu of flowers the family suggest that contributions be made in his memory to the Ebenezer AME Church P.O. BOX 165 Mayesville, SC 29104.

Family will be receiving friends at the home of his mother 390 Wilson Street, Mayesville, SC 29104.
