James V. "Jimmy" Cox, Jr. was born in Sumter, SC on June 26, 1967 to James V. Cox, Sr. and the late Eloise C. Cox. Jimmy departed this life on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Wm Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jimmy received his bachelor's degree from Phoenix University and was in pursuit of his master's degree in Criminal Psychology from Walden University. After graduating from Hillcrest H.S., Jimmy joined the US Army. A few years after his discharge from the Army, Jimmy joined the Sumter Police Dept. where he served his community for 10 years.
James, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Imani T. Cox; two devoted sisters, Sharon D. Cox-Beltran and Tonya M (Billy) Artis and a God-son, Dietrich Chestnut; his aunts: Sandra L Cox, Lou Ella (Robert) Singleton and Nancy Slater; a grand aunt, Thelma Wigfall-Minor; three nieces: Faith Davis, Ariana Artis and Brianna Beltran and a nephew, Anthony Artis along with a host of other relatives and friends who loves him.
In addition to his mother, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, Quentin Davis as well as two uncles, Jessie Carroll, Jr. and St. Julian O. Cox.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 10am-11am at Job's Mortuary.
Graveside Services will be held at 12noon on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Mulberry Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 1400 Mulberry Church Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
Family will receive friends at the home, 1330 Crowndale Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
