August 21, 1936 – March 19, 2023
Herbert Nathan Wright was born on August 21, 1936, in Sumter, South Carolina as the second of eleven children born to the late Eva Burns and the late Nathan Wright. He departed this earthly life and went to his heavenly home on Sunday March 19, 2023, in Columbia, SC. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and a Good friend to many.
Herbert was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, South Carolina and joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He joined the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge, was joined in the holy matrimony to Nora Lee Richardson on November 1, 1958, which continued until her death on January 6, 2019, a total of 60 years. The couple, with their two sons, relocated from Sumter, SC to New York City where they joined Brownsville Community Baptist Church. Herbert served faithfully as a member of the Male Choir. Then relocating to Midlothian Virginia. Herbert joined the First Union Baptist Church, serving fatefully with Male chorus. Recently he relocated to Sumter, SC to be near his sisters and rejoined his child hood church at New Bethel Missionary Baptist church where he remained faithful until his passing.
Herbert will be greatly missed by his two sons, Alfred (Barbara) of Ambler, PA and Curtis (Suzanne) of Wake Forest, NC; six loving grandchildren: Eric (Sandra) Wright, Nathan, Bria, Nile, Candace and Masai; one great-grandson, Jayden; seven sisters: Nellie Blair of Sumter, SC; Bertheen Holder of Brooklyn, NY; Ruby Banks of Manchester, CT; Reverend Dr. Earthalee Reed of Sumter, SC; Margaret Howard of Columbia, SC; Pearl Wright of Tallahassee, FL and Debra Britt of Sumter, SC and host of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Lee Richardson - Wright; three brothers: Charles Willie Wright, Phillip Leon Wright and Jerry Wright and one sister, Delores Bacon.
May God bless Herbert's soul in heaven and blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
