Harold M. Brogdon Sr., 84, husband of Rhunett Billups Brogdon, departed this life on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.
He was born on July 18, 1932, in Sumter, a son of the late Moultrie and Gardenia Canty Brogdon. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1952. He also attended Morris College in Sumter. He was a dedicated member of the Lincoln High School Class of 1952 Club. In his early years, he attended LaGree AME Church and later joined Union Station AME Church, where he served faithfully in numerous capacities until his health declined. He retired after 39 years of service at Harvin Choice Meats, Sumter. Harold was joined in holy matrimony to Rhunett Billups. They celebrated 57 years of marriage. From this union, three children were born.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife of the home; sons, Harold (Sheryl) Brogdon Jr. of Sumter and Gerald Brogdon of Madison, Tennessee; a daughter, Janice B. Rock of Sumter; four sisters, Margaret Lamb of Bronx, New York, Genevieve Cook of Riverdale, Georgia, and Naomi Brogdon and Ruth Davis, both of Englewood, New Jersey; three brothers, Christopher Brogdon of Sumter, Everett Brogdon of Bronx and Luther Brogdon of Balch Springs, Texas; seven sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; three godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Moultrie Benjamin Brogdon Jr. and Dennis Brogdon; and one sister, Iona Brogdon Lamb.
There will not be a public viewing.
Mr. Brogdon will be placed in the church at noon on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Union Station AME Church, 945 S. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Phil Flowers officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
The family will be receiving friends at the home, 1030 Decatur St., Sumter, SC 29150.
