Obituary

Gertrude "Tina" Pope Wilson, widow of James E. Wilson, was born February 15, 1947 in Aiken, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late John Cadle and Josephine Pope. She entered into eternal rest on April 17, 2018.

She accepted our Lord and Jesus Christ early in life, as a member of Randall Branch Baptist Church in Aiken, SC. Tina unyieldingly served The Lord and His church as a committed member of New Fellowship Baptist Church until the day she was called to her eternal home.  She will forever be missed by family, friends, the community, and the church universal.

She was educated in the Aiken County Public Schools and graduated from Martha Schofield High School in 1964.  She later attended Benedict College where she earned a BA Degree in Education in 1968.  After graduation, Tina moved to Sumter, SC, where she and James began their life together.  She fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher in Lee County School District where she taught for more than 38 years, primarily at Lowery Lee and Fleming Schools. Teaching was not just a career but a passion and many generations were impacted by her service.

Her commitment to the Lord continued as a member of Mt. Olive AME Church in Woodrow, South Carolina. She devoted her time and giftedness to the youth ministry where she motivated children to participate in various programs.  She organized plays and skits that were performed by children of all ages and she led the development of a successful tutoring program for adults. Her dedication and compassion was evident in her life through ministry.

Until her departure from her earthly home, Tina served as a devoted member of New Fellowship Baptist Church as a faithful worker.  She had a passion for the youth to include her involvement with Vacation Bible School and youth programs. She loved to sing and showered God's love through her service on the Senior Choir.

Tina was committed to life that God gave her as a wife, loving mother, #1 grandmother, godmother, educator and church member. She dedicated her time and showed unconditional love to her family. She was devoted to her friends and maintained a special relationship with all.  She willingly gave of her time, talents, and resources to lift others up. She enjoyed, traveling, shopping, watching the news and spending quality time with family and friends. Her smile was contagious and her love endless. She was a fighter until she was called home.

Tina was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Wilson; mother, Josephine Pope and sister, Cassandra Cadle.

As her journeys end, she leaves to cherish her fond memories: children, Stephanie (James) Wilson White, Latonya (Mitch) Wilson Moton, Jamie (Tashawn) Wilson all of Columbia, SC; her grandchildren: Alayna White, Jeremy White, Avery Moton, Meghan Moton, Jarvis Wilson, and Jackson Wilson; sister-in-law, Gardenia (Ben) Williams; God-daughters: Katrina Brown, Precious Pringle and Jawandolyn McDowell; a special niece, Ann Cooks, of Sumter, SC; an aunt, Ethel Pope; and a host of loving uncles, cousins, church and family members, community volunteers, peers, and friends.
