Bro. George Britton , was born in Sumter, SC on March 22, 1934 to the late Sis. Katie Lee Brown and Bro. Toby Temoney.  He was reared by his adoptive parents, the late Henry Britton. and Louella " Gurdie " Britton.  He transitioned peacefully from this earthly life to his eternal rest on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the McCoy Nursing Home in Bishopville, SC. He was united in holy matrimony for 21 years to Fannie Richardson.

He attended the public schools in Sumter County.  He grew up in a loving home, knowing the value and importance of family and hard work.  He worked on the family farm and his family business "The Britton Lawn and Landscaping Company".  Growing up learning how to drive trucks and machinery on the family farm led him to his passion that became his livelihood.  For over 60 years, he was an avid truck driver.  He worked as a driver at B. L. Montague, McCants Trucking, and Glasscock Trucking of Sumter, SC, Infinger Furniture Company of Charleston, SC; and J & M Tank Line of Americus, GA.

Bro. George was a life-long and dedicated member of Beulah AME Church.  While at Beulah, he was a member of the Lay Organization, the Church School Department, the Sons of Allen, and the Male Chorus.  He especially enjoyed being a member of the Senior Trustee Board.

He leaves  to mourn his death and rejoice in his life a devoted wife, Fannie of the home; his children: Juanita (Vernon) Nelson, Sandra Hunter, Sharon Denise Britton, George Kevin (Arna) Britton all of Sumter, SC; Robin Washington, Valarie Dickerson, Rev. Mendel (Mary) Rivers, Donovan (Vivian) Rivers all of Columbia, SC; and Lemar (Mary) Rivers of Norfolk, VA; one brother, Harold (Mary Ellen) Britton of Sumter, SC and two sisters: Catherine (George) Wheeler of Baltimore, MD  and Victoria (Elias "Pete") Prioleau of Fredericksburg, VA; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight brother-in-laws; ten sister-in-laws; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry Lee Britton; and four sisters: Blanche Williams, Carolyn and Annie Brown, and Virginia Britton

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Britton will be placed in the church on Saturday, October 20, 2019 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Beulah AME Church 3175 Florence Highway Sumter, SC, with Rev. Dr. Dwayne Bruce, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Beulah Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the home, 1311 Manning Road Sumter, SC from 3-7pm.
