Geneieve
Cook
March 27, 1928 – March 16, 2018
Geneieve Brogdon Cook was born March 27, 1928, in Sumter, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Moultrie B. and Clara Walker Brogdon. Clara died when Geneieve was only two years old. As God would ordain, Moultrie subsequently married the late Gardenia Canty Brogdon. Guided by the hands of these loving and godly parents, Geneieve accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age; she was baptized and became an active member of Union Station AME Church, Sumter, South Carolina. Unknown to most, Geneieve was divinely anointed to complete an exceptional life of service.
Geneieve's formal education began in the Public-School System of Sumter, South Carolina. She graduated from Lincoln High School. Geneieve continued her education at Morris College, Sumter, South Carolina, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She also pursued graduate studies at South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Using her God-given talents, Geneieve was a Public-School Teacher for over thirty years. She taught in Lancaster, Dillon, and Sumter County School Districts. After retiring, Geneieve continued her love of children and education by serving as a Substitute Teacher for five additional years in Sumter School District #17 and Sumter County School District #2.
In 1952, Geneieve married her soul mate, the late Elijah Cook. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Sybil. Joining her husband in Christian service, Geneieve became a faithful member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Over the course of sixty-six plus years, she held various positions within the Church which included: Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Teacher, President/Vice-President/Chaplin of the United Methodist Women, Lay Speaker, Senior Choir Member, Daughters of Abigail, and Chairperson of The Older Adult Ministry. In addition to her religious commitments, Geneieve was also a member of the American Legion Post #202, Household of Ruth, St. Paul Chapter #345 Order of Eastern Star, The Retired Teachers Association, and The Ladies of Metro-Atlanta. Geneieve's gentle spirit and poised disposition caused her to be revered by most. She was truly the quintessence of a virtuous woman!
After the death of her husband in 2011, Geneieve moved to Riverdale, GA with her loving daughter/caregiver, Sybil. In addition to addressing Geneieve's declining health concerns, Sybil also ensured that her mother was actively engaged with church, family, and friends.
On a peaceful Friday night, March 16, 2018, Geneieve Brogdon Cook, caught a glimpse of her heavenly father beckoning her to bid this world farewell. Without hesitation, Geneieve responded to her celestial call. She is now resting in the loving arms of our Redeemer.
