Flora Lucille Roman York, wife of Thomas Henry York, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 28, 2021. She was born on June 22, 1937 in Sumter, SC to the late George and Malvenia Reed Roman.
She joined St. Paul AME Church and was a faithful member until her health declined. Flora served on the Chancellor Choir, Senior Choir, the Steward Board, and President of the Florist Club.
She attended the public schools of Sumter, SC. She was employed by Model Dye for a period of time and retired from Yuasa Exide Battery. She was also an active member of the Block and McKiever Club.
Precious memories will be shared by her caring, supportive, and loving family and husband, Thomas H. York; daughters: Belvin York Collier, Lucinda York (John) Herriott, and Tonya Marie York, all of Sumter, SC; grandchildren: Mano (Pamela) Parr of Fredricksburg, VA; Lionel (Michelle) Grant of Mount Rainer, MD, Leroy (Lucinda) York of Greenville, SC, Thomayne (Katherine) Grant of Providence, RI, Dwandre (Michael) Bellinger, Thomas York, Tobias York all of Columbia, SC; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Sadie R. White of New Haven, CT, Barbara R. Wilson Jackson, and Gloria R. Felder of Sumter, SC; a brother, Johnnie (Miriam) Roman of Sumter, SC; a loving sister and caregiver, Ella Lane of Sumter, SC; a brother-in-law, McKinley Wilson, Sr. of Sumter, SC; sisters-in-law: Rosanna York of Indian Head, Fort Washington, Virginia Perry of Baltimore, MD, Flossie York of Sumter, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
In addition to her parents, Flora was preceded in death by a son, Theodore J. York and a granddaughter, Brenae Dionne' Berry.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Graveside Services will be held at 11am on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Hillside Memorial Park, 2561 Cains Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
Family will receive friends at the home, 1685 Reed Roman Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
