Obituary

Evelyn Virginia "Nunie" Fulwood Leevy was born on March 6, 1937 in Sumter County, SC. She departed this life on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Sumter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Sumter, SC.

She was educated in the Sumter County School System at Johnson High School. Evelyn later on enrolled at Harbinson Institute in Irmo, SC, graduating in 1955 with honors as a glee club member. After high school, she located to New York and continued her education.

Evelyn was employed by Chase Manhattan Bank N.Y. for many years before retiring. She then returned to her home of Sumter, where she became employed by South Sumter Resource Center before retiring again.

Evelyn became a member of Mt. Sinai AME Church and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She participated in the young people's church activities, which included the music ministry as a soloist. As she matured, she continued to served at Mt. Sinai as a Senior Choir member, President of the Pulpit Aide Ministry and a member of the Stewardess Board.

Evelyn was a great sports fan; she adored tennis and NBA Basketball. She was blessed to have made the high school basketball team. She also loved bowling, where she played in New York and continued after she returned to Sumter. He dedication to bowling was shown through the many bowling trophies she received.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her siblings: Cloudie E. York, Jr., Mary O. York Walker, Sarah York Witherspoon, Joseph Daniel York, Beverly G. York (Joseph) Laws, and Warren C. (Delgracia) York; an aunt, Mary Fulwood; and a goddaughter, Gwendolyn Rice of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Isaac Fulwood, Sr. and Sarah Ben Fulwood, whom she referred to as her parents and her mother, Ida M. Fulwood York and step-father, Cloudie York, Sr.

Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Mt. Sinai AME Church 5895 Mt. Sinai Church Road Lynchburg, SC 29080, with Rev. Marie D. Webb, Pastor, Eulogist and Rev. Alvin E. Webb, Officiating.

Interment will follow in Edward Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the home of her brother, 54 Murphy Street Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
