Eva Mae Johnson Vaughn, daughter of the late James Johnson and Lillie Mae Singleton Johnson Robinson was born on January 4, 1940 in Sumter County. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital of Sumter, SC.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1958. Eva was baptized in Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church as a teenager. As a young adult, she joined St. Luke AME Church where she supported several ministries and served faithfully as a stewardess, usher, missionary, and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. In later years she rejoined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was active in the older adult ministry.
Eva joined the workforce of Cooper Tool Company (Crescent) and worked as a diligent and dedicated employee for twenty-six years until her retirement in 2002. Eva enjoyed cooking, shopping, fellowshipping with her women's club and she was a lover of plants, with an amazing green thumb. She extended hospitality to family, friends, and neighbors; many of whom enjoyed her delicious meals over the years.
On May 11, 1963, she married the love of her life, Samuel Vaughn and together they reared four children. Eva loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; supporting them in their varied endeavors. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, cousin, friend and neighbor to all who knew her.
Memories of Eva will always be cherished her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Samuel Vaughn; her devoted children, Timothy Arthur Johnson of Sumter, SC; Sanquinette Vaughn and Michael D'Andra Vaughn (Kimberly) both of Lithonia, GA; and Alfred Bernard Vaughn of Sumter, SC; her siblings, Eartha J. Eadie of Mathews, NC, John H. Johnson (Arveal) of San Diego, CA, and Rev. Mary L. Johnson of Elgin, SC; her grandchildren, Michael D'Andra Vaughn II, Marcus Xavier Vaughn, Kadeeja Renae Vaughn, and Kyla Korrin Vaughn, all of Lithonia, GA; Marquise Bernard Archie and Tahj Javal Vaughn, both of Sumter, SC; her great grandchildren, Michael D'Andra Vaughn III and Marcus Xavier Vaughn II; her step-siblings, Blanche Logan of Atlanta, GA, Jimmie L. Blossom of Sumter, SC, and John Robinson of Bronx, New York; her sister-in-laws, Gladys Bellinger, Isabell Vaughn, Gloria Evans and Shirley Edwards, all of Sumter, SC.; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Maggie J. Pollard; and her step-father, James L. Robinson.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Due to Covid-19, a private funeral service (extended family only) will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Salem Chapel and Heritage Center, 101 South Salem Avenue, Sumter, South Carolina 29150, with the Rev. Dr. James B. Blassingame Officiating and the Rev. Mary L. Johnson as Eulogist. The service can be viewed live at our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/jobs.mortuary.71 .
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family requests limited visitation at the home, 1681 North St. Pauls Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154. Friends are welcome to drive by and visit as well.
