Obituary

Eva Mae Council entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Cambridge Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield, Connecticut after a brief illness.  Eva was born in Rembert, South Carolina on August 16, 1935 to the late Charles and Sally Moses Council.  She was the sixth child of eleven siblings. Eva was baptized in the old Mount Pisgah Church and grew faithfully and spiritually there as a young girl.

She received her early education in the Rembert Schools of Sumter County.  Her high school education was completed at Mather Academy High School in Camden, South Carolina. Eva earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.  Shortly thereafter she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and worked for five years at the Walton Early Childhood Center. She moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut and was employed as a pre-kindergarten teacher in the Bridgeport Public Schools System.  She continued her education at the University of Bridgeport and earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Eva retired from McKinley Elementary School in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1995. Eva attended East End Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut and upon retirement she volunteered and assisted with tag and bake sales.  She also enjoyed sewing for family.

Left to cherish her memories are: three brothers: Julian Council (Myrtle) of Newport News, Virginia, Tex Council (Doris) of Sumter, South Carolina, and  Ralph Council (Martha) of Trumbull, Connecticut; one sister, Eda D. Council of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and one sister-in -law, Marie Council of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews,grandnieces,grandnephews. and a special four-legged furry friend, CoCo.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sally Moses Council; four brothers: Houston M. Council, Edsol Council (Marie), Charles Council, Jr., and Dr. Douglas M. Council; and two sisters, Sally Council Boykin(Herbert) and Alice Council Witherspoon (Earthlay).

Public Viewing will be  held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Ms. Council will be placed in the church on Sat. at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held on Sat. Jan 27 at 11am at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church 7355 Camden Hwy, Rembert, SC 29128 with Pastor Anthony Taylor, Officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Rembert, SC

Family will be receiving friends at 570 Adger Lane, Sumter, SC
