Life Reflections – Eulia G. Fleming

Mrs. Eulia "Uley" Green Fleming, a daughter of the late Uley Watson Green and Dewey Hopkins, was born on December 29, 1939 in Pinewood, South Carolina.

She met the love of her life and was united in holy matrimony to the late Allen Fleming.  To this union, two beautiful daughters were born.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved Grandmother Maggie Watson Brown and 5 of her siblings; three brothers, Herbert L. Green, Richard C. Hopkins, Sr.  and Thomas Hopkins.  Two sisters; Maggie Green Montgomery and Estelle Hopkins.

As we reflect on the events of her life, we the family quickly realized that she lived a rich and full life.

Growing up in a Christian home, at an early age, she was baptized and joined St. John Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.  She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Manchester High School in Pinewood, South Carolina in the class of 1957.

Throughout her life, she maintained her faith and tirelessly worked in many capacities.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time with Friends and Family.  Upon graduating from High School, her formal career began at her Alama Matter, Manchester High School where she was offered and accepted the position of Secretary.  She enjoyed this position and worked in it for 10 years.  After her husband Allen passed away following a brief illness in August of 1969, her life changed significantly as she had lost her husband and had two young daughters and many new responsibilities.  She made the decision to resign from her position of Secretary at Manchester High School and began studying to pursue a Funeral Director's License.  Then, in 1970 she took a leadership role at her husband's business and became the Owner and Director of Fleming Funeral Home in Summerton, South Carolina.  In this role, she had the honor of serving many families in Clarendon and Sumter Counties for over 35 years.   Her motto was "One Service To All"

Eulia was a calm, kind and fun-loving person who would help anyone that would allow her to do so.  She was never afraid of hard work and was quick to go "do it herself."   She touched many lives along the way and people often told her that she had beautiful eyes and a loving spirit.  To this she would reply, "thank you very much, you are making game" and then smile.

As a result of a brief illness, she departed this Earthly life on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.

Her precious memories will be cherished by 2 loving and caring daughters; Lillian B. Fleming, Pinewood, SC and Allene J. Fleming, Marietta, GA.  A special and devoted Niece whom she loved like a daughter, Stephanie V. "Nessa" Auls, Loganville, GA.  Two grand-children; Allen Fleming, Marietta, GA and Amber Fleming, Roswell, GA.  One step-son, Allen Fleming, Orangeburg, SC.
