Eugene Ramsey, (Bubba as he was affectionately called by many) was born June 9, 1934 in Sumter County to the late Clifton Ramsey and Elizabeth Bowman Ramsey. He departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest on May 20, 2020 from Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter.
Being reared in a Christian home, Eugene attended Enon Baptist Church and became a member at an early age. Eugene never forgot his spiritual teachings. As an avid reader, he continued reading, interpreting and studying God's word. While living at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sumter, he attended Bible teachings by various church leaders, involving himself and excelling in many activities relating to the Bible.
Eugene was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from St. Michael High School. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army where he was committed and served his country unselfishly. He often shared many details about his job as a Combat Engineer Assistant and his many travels to various countries. After the military, Eugene lived and worked in New York City for many years. When returning to Sumter, he was employed by The Eastern Brick and Tile Company for years, later retiring.
Eugene was very knowledgeable about science, history, geography and kept abreast on current events. He enjoyed sharing what he had learned with others as well as stories about our family that were passed on to him. He was blessed with a terrific memory. He could talk for hours with anyone he came in contact with, always showing love and concern for them.
