Obituary

Our Dearly Departed Elmore Eugene Thomas was born on December 9, 1943 to the late Willie and Charlotte Thomas in Ocala, Florida. Elmore received his education from the Marion County Public School System in Ocala, FL. He was a graduate of Ocala High School Class of 1961. After high school Elmore attended Morris College of Sumter, SC in 1961 and soon thereafter, enlisted into the United States Army. In the United States Army, he received decorations as Expert (Rifle), Amy Occupation Medal (Berlin), and National Defense Service Medal. After serving two years in the United States Army. Elmore returned to Morris College to finish his Bachelor of Science Degree.
Elmore was employed by South Carolina Department of Social Services in Sumter, South Carolina as Medicaid Supervisor. He was Chairman of the Board of RTA Santee Wateree, and Chairman of The Author O'Neil Foundation.
Elmore was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, SC, where he served as Church Clerk, Chairman of Trustee Ministry, member of Usher Ministry and Chairman of Board of Directors of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church Enrichment Center. Elmore was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
On Tuesday morning, October 24, 2017, Elmore departed this earthly life in peace at home. He leaves to cherish his memories on this side: A loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Blanche Wilson Thomas. Daughters: Bridgit Eugenia Thomas Harper (Chris), Memphis, TN. LaTasha Aleshia Thomas of the home. His granddaughter: Jamaria Elisha Hay of the home. One sister: Josephine Reddick, Gainesville, FL. One step brother: Chris Curtis, Ocala, FL. Five Sister in laws: Azalee Willoughby, Effingham, SC; Jannie Ham, Timmonsville, SC; Joan Pringle (Frederick) Florence, SC; Mary W. Hyman (Kenneth) Timmonsville, SC; and Sylvia Thomas, Ocala, FL. God Children: Sonia Bowers, Tevin Williams, Kayla Maple, Angela Williams, Douglass Williams, Keith Williams, and Devin Johnson. Mentor of: Dale Breaux Arnold, Neva Titus, and Leverne Washington. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Brothers and Sisters: Alfred Thomas, Ann Ivy, Edward Thomas, Jesse Thomas, David Lee Thomas, Willie Arthur Thomas, and Linda Sue Luckey.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church 325 West Fulton Street, Sumter from 4-6pm and Sigma's Omega Ceremony at 6pm
Mr. Thomas will be placed in the church on Sat Oct. 28 at 11am for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Service will be held on Sat. Oct. 28 at 12noon at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor James Blassingame, Officiating
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Family will be receiving friends at the home 2498 Pipkin Road, Sumter, SC
