Mrs. Elizabeth Green Oxendine, affectionately known as "Bet," was born in Wedgefield, SC on June 29, 1934 to the late Prectdia Scott Green Washington and Marion Green, Sr. She departed this life on August 9, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter, SC. "Bet" was married to the late Harold "Tee" Oxendine and to this union nine children were born.
"Bet" was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an young age, she accepted Jesus Christ in her life and became a member of Bethel AME Church. While there, she was a member of the Stewardness and Missionary Boards and also a member of the National Federation of the Blind of Sumter, SC
"Bet" legacy will continue through her loved ones: her loving children: Larry Green of Wedgefield, SC, Sammie Oxendine (Sally) and Jacqueline (Percy) Oxendine Wingo both of Sumter, SC; seven children: Wardrecka Oxendine of Upper Marboro, MD, Dorrell Maurice Shaw of Douglasville, GA, Rashard Jamal Tatum of Lakeland, FL, Larry "TJ" Green of Sumter, SC, Teagon Green of Aiken, SC, Laquonda Spencer Aaron Amos of Fayetteville, GA, and Isaiah Lawson of Wedgefield, SC; four great-grandchildren: Kali, Ja'miah, Jay-ceon, and D'sean; two sisters, Marie (James) Anderson and Sarah Harvin both of Sumter, SC; three brothers: Marion (Sally) Green, Jr. of Wedgefield, SC, James L. (Annie Mae) Green and Robert (Doshia) Green both of Sumter, SC; three stepbrothers and four stepsisters; two daughters-in-law, Sandra Oxendine and Arellia Oxendine both of Sumter, SC; a special nephew, Derrick Green of Columbia, SC; two special nieces, Julia (Ronald) Jackson of Sumter, SC and Elease Harvin of Lancaster, SC; god-children, James Lancaster of Wedgefield, SC and Mary (Herman) Howell of Rembert, SC; a special little person, Ivy Cross of Wedgefield, SC; a loving and devoted caregiver, Janice Lagrant of Believe in Faith Homecare of Sumter, SC; her best friend for over seven decades, Mrs. Bernice Ramsey of Sumter, SC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one adult son, Harrison "Tee" Oxendine, five other children, and one sister, Jannie Lee Taylor.
Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.
Mrs. Oxendine will be placed in the church on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 1pm for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 S. Salem Avenue Sumter, SC, with Rev. Larry Clark Officiating.
Family will receive friends at the home, 730 Loring Mill Road Sumter, SC 29150.
